There are so many reasons why I want to write to you, and I have been intending to do so ever since you were here to give your class. It was a truly excellent and very helpful class for all of us, and I only hope that you will come back some time in the near future so that more of us—both students and teachers—can take advantage of your knowledge and wonderful teaching!
One thing I wanted to share with you is that my student, Kylie, who played the piccolo piece for you, won the competition for which she was preparing. We are both over the moon as she had some tough competition. Thanks a million for lending a powerful hand in this effort! – Judy Johnson (Kansas City)
WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY
The flute studio at WSU is a tight-knit group of dedicated, busy students. Everyone supports each other in his or her journey to excellence, realizing that one person’s path is most likely very different from his or her own. We enjoy the challenge of perfecting our craft!
Our weekly studio class gives students the opportunity to try out new pieces, play run-throughs before performances, and discuss topics in practicing and teaching. We also prepare small flute ensemble music for performances in the community.
In the 2017-2018 year, WSU will host the first annual FluteShox Flute Day in addition to clinics for All-State and regional auditions and frequent guest artists.
Wichita State’s School of Music delivers the limitless opportunities and resources students need to become tomorrow’s musical innovators in an environment that feels like family.

Wichita State University offers many Tuition Discount Programs. Among them are the Shocker City Partnership and the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP). Others are Legacy Tuition, Shocker Select, and Veterans and Active Duty Military.
Shocker City Partnership
The Shocker City Partnership grants resident tuition rates to students from specific metropolitan areas in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas, making the cost of attending Wichita State significantly less than out-of-state tuition. Undergraduate students enrolled in 15 credit hours per semester would save more than $8,950 per year in tuition and fees, compared to nonresident tuition rates. Shocker City Partnership is also available to graduate students.
The Midwest Student Exchange Program offers 33 percent off out-of-state tuition to residents of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin who meet the program’s qualifications for major, test score and GPA. MSEP students save about $5,700 each year.
